Wildfires in Maui Disrupt Travel Plans and Communication

The island of Maui is currently in crisis management mode due to the devastating fires, and the extent of the damage is still being assessed. While most hotels and condos were not damaged, the entire island's infrastructure needs time to recover. Visitors with trips planned after August, excluding Kaanapali resorts and West Maui, are advised to consider keeping their plans for now. However, those with plans for West Maui are encouraged to check with their airline and accommodations for cancellation policies, as the State of Hawaii is asking visitors not to come. The rebuilding process in Lahaina will take years, and restoring power and cell phone coverage in West Maui will also be a lengthy process. The situation remains fluid, and many residents have lost their homes in the fires.
