A lost masterpiece by Italian Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli, estimated to be worth $109 million, has been found in a home in southern Italy. The painting, depicting the Virgin Mary and infant Christ, was commissioned for the Roman Catholic Church in 1470 and had been missing since the 1980s. It was discovered in the town of Gragnano near Naples. The artwork, which will require extensive restoration, will eventually be exhibited in a national museum in Naples. The Somma family, who had been entrusted with the painting, will retain ownership.
