San Francisco's Newest Sculptures Reach for the Sky and Beyond.

Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto has installed a slender, 69-foot-tall stainless steel sculpture called "Point of Infinity" on a hilltop in Yerba Buena Island, San Francisco, to serve as an anchor for the area's new public art program. The sculpture, which looks like it's growing infinitely smaller and taller as it reaches for Earth's outer atmosphere, is the first major artwork developed under the Treasure Island Art Program, run by the San Francisco Arts Commission and funded by a "one percent" program. The sculpture also marks Yerba Buena Island and the adjoining Treasure Island as a new cultural destination.
