Alec Baldwin potentially charged with involuntary manslaughter in Rust shooting

Prosecutors in New Mexico plan to bring an involuntary manslaughter charge against actor Alec Baldwin before a grand jury in connection with the 2021 "Rust" shooting. Recent investigations have led prosecutors to believe that the gun used in the incident was not modified and that new evidence connects Baldwin to recklessness regarding safety standards on the set. If convicted, Baldwin could face up to 18 months in prison. This comes five months after the same charge was dismissed, with prosecutors reserving the right to refile. The incident resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the injury of director Joel Souza. Baldwin has maintained that he did not pull the trigger. The film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, was previously charged with involuntary manslaughter and is set to go on trial in February 2024.
