Netflix's Wild Oscar Contender 'Emilia Pérez' Sparks Viral Buzz
TL;DR
The Spanish-language thriller "Emilia Pérez," starring Karla Sofía Gascón as a trans cartel leader, has sparked controversy over a musical number simplifying gender-affirming surgery. The film, directed by Jacques Audiard and featuring Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña, has divided audiences and critics, with some praising Gascón's performance while others criticize its portrayal of trans experiences as reductive and trope-laden. Despite mixed reviews, the film is streaming on Netflix and is considered for Oscar nominations.
