Nolan’s The Odyssey opens to $264M worldwide, boosted by IMAX

Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey opened to $264 million globally in its first weekend (NA $124.5m), with the UK/Ireland leading international sales at £12.9m. Made for about $250m, it was filmed entirely in IMAX and rolled out across 73 markets, 12,800 venues and 26,000 screens, with premium formats accounting for about 53% of North America’s box office. Starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Zendaya, the film has drawn strong early returns and, per reports, posted a debut larger than Nolan’s previous global box office hit, Oppenheimer; Nolan has suggested his next project won’t be for at least three years due to the demanding shoot.
