"Toronto Celebrates American Fiction: Films Shine as Stars"

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) showcased an exceptionally strong program of films this year, with a more muted celebrity presence due to ongoing strikes in Hollywood. "American Fiction," adapted from Percival Everett's novel "Erasure," won TIFF's coveted audience award, while "The Holdovers" was a runner-up. Other notable films included "Hit Man," a dark comedy directed by Richard Linklater, and "Wildcat," directed by Ethan Hawke. Many films explored the theme of performance, celebrating and interrogating the notion itself. Several well-received films at TIFF are still seeking distribution, including "Daddio," "Green Border," and "His Three Daughters." The festival also featured films that reflected on the creative process and addressed themes of rue and regret. TIFF closed with "Sly," a portrait of Sylvester Stallone that embodies defiance, perseverance, and self-creation.
