Denzel Washington Reflects on Oscar Loss and Rumors About Kevin Spacey
TL;DR
Denzel Washington revealed in an Esquire interview that he became bitter after losing the Best Actor Oscar to Kevin Spacey in 2000 for "American Beauty," despite winning a Golden Globe for his role in "The Hurricane." This loss led him to stop voting for the Oscars, delegating the task to his wife, Pauletta. Washington eventually won the Best Actor Oscar for "Training Day" in 2002, becoming the second African American to achieve this. He has since received multiple nominations, including for "The Tragedy of Macbeth" in 2022.
