'Oppenheimer' Overcomes Backlash, Secures Theatrical Release in Japan

Japanese distributor Bitters End has confirmed that Christopher Nolan's biopic "Oppenheimer" will receive a theatrical release in Japan next year. The decision was made after careful consideration of the subject matter and sensitivity surrounding the film. Despite its critical and commercial success, the movie has faced controversy in Japan due to its portrayal of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Nolan defended his choice to not explicitly depict the bombings, stating that the film is told from J. Robert Oppenheimer's perspective. Bitters End has previously released Universal titles in Japan, including "Darkest Hour" and "Licorice Pizza."
