Russell Crowe shines in "The Pope's Exorcist" horror film.
TL;DR
"The Pope's Exorcist" is a trashy horror film inspired by the work of the late Father Gabriele Amorth, the Catholic priest who served as the head exorcist of the Diocese of Rome. The film follows a familiar demonic-possession horror film template, with a hapless American teen inhabited by an ancient minion of Satan and a venerable priest called upon to clear up the mess. Despite a thin script, the film exerts a lurid B-movie pull, largely thanks to Russell Crowe's performance as the film's version of Father Amorth.
