Surviving Childhood Conversion Therapy

Ty Autry, a gay man from southern Georgia, was forced into conversion therapy by his parents and church for several years. He pretended to be straight multiple times but eventually accepted himself as gay at 17 and wrote a play about his experience. He has since been touring and performing the play around the world. While he has healed from the trauma, his relationship with his father remains strained, and his mother has apologized for her role in his conversion therapy.
