Gutman Delivers CBS Evening News Ratings Win During Dokoupil’s Vacation
TL;DR
Tony Dokoupil’s tenure at CBS Evening News is under scrutiny as his stand-in Matt Gutman posted a ratings win for CBS (around 4 million viewers, with 4.1 million in Gutman’s first week), a figure Dokoupil hasn’t reached since March. The boost occurs amid CBS News leadership changes and a string of on-air missteps, including a chaotic Fourth of July special, a Kanye West photo error, and visa issues during Trump’s China trip, highlighting ongoing questions about Dokoupil’s tenure and CBS’s direction.
