Dakota Johnson Shines in 'Materialists,' a Rom-Com Drama About Love and Materialism
TL;DR
Materialists, a new romantic comedy by Celine Song, uniquely addresses the economic realities of its characters, with explicit mentions of their incomes and assets, contrasting traditional rom-coms' glossed-over financial details. The film explores themes of money, status, and love through a love triangle involving characters played by Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, highlighting how financial and social status influence relationships. It offers a mix of satire and romance, with strong performances and stylish visuals, but its moral resolution may feel somewhat contrived.
