Exploring the Depths of Lana Del Rey's Music.
TL;DR
Lana Del Rey's new album features a spoken-word interlude by Churchome preacher Judah Smith, who has been criticized for his anti-abortion and homophobic stances. Del Rey's fanbase, many of whom identify as queer, have expressed disappointment and confusion over the inclusion of Smith's sermon. However, the interlude is ultimately an ironic and inflammatory sendup of commodified spirituality and a reminder that Del Rey's artistic ethos is firmly about pleasing no one but herself.
