Jazz Icon Cassandra Wilson Dies at 70, Leaving a Lasting Vocal Legacy

Cassandra Wilson, a two-time Grammy-winning jazz vocalist known for blending jazz with pop and for inventive reimaginings of standards, has died at 70. A Mississippi native who helped launch the M-Base movement in New York, she released landmark albums including Blue Light 'til Dawn (1992) and New Moon Daughter (1995), won Grammys for New Moon Daughter (1997) and Loverly (2009), and collaborated with the Roots, Angelique Kidjo, Wynton Marsalis and many others; her death was confirmed by her manager, with no cause disclosed.
