Young cited the availability of his music on other streaming services and the hope for improved sound quality on Spotify as reasons for his return. This move follows a reported $250 million contract renewal for Rogan with Spotify and the subsequent removal of Young's music from the platform in protest of Rogan's spreading of COVID-19 vaccine misinformation. The boycott also saw other artists like Joni Mitchell and members of Young's band removing their music from Spotify. Young's return coincides with an upcoming tour with Crazy Horse, including shows in New Jersey and Queens.
