The Cure's Robert Smith expressed his disgust at Ticketmaster's "Fees" debacle, which added hefty service fees to the cost of "Verified Fan" tickets for the band's upcoming "Lost World" North American tour. Smith had been tracking the various money-traps in ticketing, including the secondary-market practice of selling tickets that do not yet exist. The band decided to use Ticketmaster's "Verified Fan" system to combat scalping but refused to participate in the company's dynamic pricing and "Platinum" tickets. Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, has launched the "FAIR Ticketing Act" to combat exploitative prices on the secondary market.
