Queen Elizabeth II wanted both Prince William and Prince Harry to go to war during their military service, but it was deemed too dangerous for the Prince of Wales, according to retired British army Gen. Sir Mike Jackson. William never saw combat, but Harry did two tours in Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot. The decision was made due to the risk assessment, as William was considered too great a risk to go to Afghanistan. The late queen herself served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service as a princess during World War II.
