Background

Lamar Odom, a two-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, has faced significant public scrutiny regarding his substance abuse issues, including a near-fatal overdose in 2015 and a DUI arrest in January 2026. He reached a plea deal in July 2026 and celebrated 100 days of sobriety in May. Financially, Odom had to pawn his championship rings in 2020 to cover medical bills, though a fan later returned them. This new venture follows a trend of celebrities joining OnlyFans for various reasons, ranging from artistic expression to financial gain, as noted by E! News in its coverage of other stars like Shannon Elizabeth and Bella Thorne.

How outlets are covering it

TMZ, Page Six, and E! News all confirm the launch of Odom’s account and the involvement of his girlfriend, Rachel Bradley. While the New York Post emphasizes the historical significance of Odom being the first NBA player on the platform, Page Six highlights his financial background and sobriety journey. E! News provides broader context by listing other celebrities who have joined OnlyFans, framing Odom’s move within a wider cultural trend. All sources quote Odom’s refusal to specify the content, noting his comments about 'surprises' and 'chapters people haven’t seen.' The New York Post and Page Six both mention his recent DUI arrest and plea deal, linking his current ventures to his recovery narrative.

Why it matters

Odom’s decision to join OnlyFans marks a significant cultural shift, as he is the first active or former NBA player to publicly embrace the platform. This move challenges traditional perceptions of athletes and celebrity branding, potentially normalizing the platform for mainstream sports figures. It also highlights the evolving financial strategies of retired athletes, who may turn to direct-to-fan content to supplement income after careers marked by financial volatility. Odom’s public sobriety and candid discussions about addiction add a layer of personal narrative to this commercial venture, potentially influencing public perception of the platform’s role in celebrity monetization.

What to watch

Subscribers will soon be able to access Odom’s content, though the specific nature remains undisclosed. If Odom and Bradley collaborate on content, it could set a precedent for couples in the entertainment industry using the platform for joint ventures. Odom may continue to leverage his sobriety narrative and public persona to drive subscriptions, potentially facing further scrutiny regarding the content’s appropriateness for his former professional image. The financial success of his account could influence other retired athletes or celebrities to consider similar platforms for revenue generation.
