Controversy Erupts as AI-Generated Image Wins Photography Prize and Artist Refuses Award

German artist Boris Eldagsen has refused a prestigious award after admitting that the prize-winning image was generated using artificial intelligence. Eldagsen said he had entered the competition to find out if AI-generated images would be accepted. He said the photo world needed to have an open discussion about what constituted photography. The World Photography Organisation said Eldagsen had confirmed the image was co-created using AI before he was announced as the winner.
