The High Stakes of the WGA Writers' Strike Against AI and ChatGPT

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) is leading the charge against the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the entertainment industry, requesting that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) ban the use of AI for writing and rewriting any source material, as well as its use as a source material of its own. The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has already voted unanimously to join the strike if negotiations completely fall apart between WGA and AMPTP. The fear is that AI could replace human writers and actors, but the big unknown is whether or not audiences would even notice if AI tools started producing their favorite TV shows.
