"Based on a True Story": A Darkly Comic Crime Series with a Killer Podcast Twist
TL;DR
The new Peacock comedy "Based on a True Story" follows a married couple, played by Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, who become embroiled in a scheme to create a true crime podcast with an active serial killer, played by Tom Bateman. While the show's satire of true crime falls flat, its portrayal of the couple's marriage and their relationship to class is more successful. The show's scattershot plotting and underdeveloped characters detract from its overall appeal.
