Key points

• CBS announced series orders for three new unscripted programs on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
• The 'Undercover Boss' reboot is in pre-production and will be hosted by Drew Carey, who has hosted 'The Price Is Right' since 2007.
• 'Stacks of Cash' is currently in post-production and was filmed in Portugal to reduce costs; it is hosted by Mike O'Malley.
• '24 Hour Millionaire' is in pre-production and features a $1 million prize for the winner of a 24-hour nonstop competition.
• Mitch Graham, EVP of Alternative Series at CBS, stated the orders reflect a commitment to ambitious and entertaining formats.

Background

CBS has been actively restructuring its programming in 2026, including revamping 'CBS Mornings' with new co-hosts and securing Emmy recognition for 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert' before its cancellation. This expansion into unscripted television follows a trend of cost-saving measures, such as filming shows abroad, and aims to fill gaps in the schedule with high-concept competition and game formats.

Why it matters

The move signals CBS's strategic pivot toward high-concept unscripted content to maintain audience engagement and manage production budgets. By leveraging established stars like Drew Carey and successful formats from international markets or other networks, CBS aims to create a robust year-round slate that competes effectively in the crowded reality and game show landscape.

What to watch

CBS will announce specific premiere dates, season lengths, and additional production details for the three new series at a later date. Production for 'Undercover Boss' and '24 Hour Millionaire' is currently in pre-production, while 'Stacks of Cash' is in post-production.
