TL;DR

Deadline reports NBC’s 2026-27 slate includes two new private-detective dramas, The Rockford Files and Sunset P.I., launching in early 2027, mirroring NBC’s 2006 pairing of 30 Rock and Studio 60. The piece highlights similarities in premise, title structure, and behind‑the‑scenes dynamics, while NBC executives stress the new shows will have distinct tones. A broader PI-show trend is noted with titles like The Man on the Inside and RJ Decker in development. Past lessons linger: 30 Rock endured seven seasons, Studio 60 lasted one, underscoring the industry’s uncertainty about longevity for the new projects.
