Simmons Tries to Elevate Flat Irish Mob Tale in The Westies

Variety’s TV review finds MGM+’s The Westies, led by J.K. Simmons and Titus Welliver, a stylish 1980s-set crime drama about a Hell’s Kitchen gang profiting from the Javits Center project, but ultimately a dull, dated take with underdeveloped protagonists and little immersive texture, despite solid performances; the first two episodes premiere July 12.
