TL;DR

Scott Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead franchise, discusses the new spinoff series, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, centered on popular characters Rick Grimes and Michonne. The show, originally planned as a series of films, now unfolds as a TV program due to industry changes. Gimple worked closely with the stars to shape the story, and the spinoff aims to revitalize the franchise amid declining traditional cable viewership. AMC is banking on the success of the spinoffs, positioning The Walking Dead as one of the most enduring franchises in cable TV history.
