"15 Modifiable Risk Factors Linked to Early-Onset Dementia"
A new study published in JAMA Neurology has identified 15 health and lifestyle factors that can increase the risk of early-onset dementia, including modifiable factors like orthostatic hypotension, depression, and alcohol use disorder, as well as non-modifiable factors like low socioeconomic status and genetic predisposition. The study followed over 350,000 people under 65 and found that addressing these risk factors early on could substantially lower the risk of young-onset dementia, which tends to be more aggressive than dementia occurring later in life. Healthcare providers recommend engaging in physical exercise, following a Mediterranean-based diet, learning cognitive and mood stimulation techniques, and maintaining quality social connections to help prevent dementia.
