Reston measles exposure prompts health alert at Sunrise Valley venues

A Virginia Department of Health alert says a traveler with a confirmed measles case may have exposed people in Reston on Aug. 16 at four Sunrise Valley Drive locations (Sheraton Reston, MOTW Coffee and Pastries, 7-Eleven, Barber & Men’s Spa; barber visit 4:30–5 p.m.). Exposed individuals should verify they’re up to date on two MMR vaccine doses and monitor for symptoms for 21 days, isolating and contacting a healthcare provider if symptoms appear. Public risk is low due to high vaccination rates, but unvaccinated individuals remain at higher risk; Virginia has 179 measles cases this year, most infections in the unvaccinated, and a Buckingham-Cumberland outbreak ended Aug. 19.
