GP AI note-takers may miss vital patient details, study warns

University of Edinburgh researchers reviewed ambient AI scribes used in UK GP practices and found they can reduce clerical workload but risk missing non-clinical cues and patients’ stories, discourage disclosure of sensitive information, and contribute to cognitive offloading. The study calls for design improvements to preserve the patient voice and more context-specific research across healthcare settings.
