John Barnett, a former Boeing employee who raised concerns about quality-control and safety issues, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Barnett had reported finding metal shavings near electrical systems for flight controls and problems with the aircraft’s oxygen systems. His concerns led to an FAA directive in 2017. Boeing is currently under scrutiny after a door plug blew out midflight on an Alaska Airlines-operated 737 Max 9 in January, leading to the grounding of all Boeing 737 Max 9 planes.
