"Mississippi 'Goon Squad' Deputy Sentenced for Torturing Black Men"

Former Mississippi sheriff deputy Daniel Ready Opdyke was sentenced to 17.5 years in federal prison for his involvement in a racist attack on two Black men, during which they were tortured and abused by a group of law enforcement officers known as the "Goon Squad." The officers burst into the victims' home without a warrant, assaulted them with stun guns, forced them to ingest liquids, and used racial slurs. The incident left one victim seriously injured, and the officers attempted to cover up their actions by planting evidence and filing false reports. Opdyke and other officers involved in the attack have pleaded guilty to felony charges, including civil rights conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
