Coastal wildfire prompts evacuations as Highway 1 closes on Sonoma Coast

A wind-driven wildfire along the Sonoma Coast, the Woodside Fire, forced evacuations of Timber Cove and nearby campgrounds and led to Highway 1 closure between Stewarts Point and Timber Cove. By evening the fire covered about 75 acres, with some areas crossing Highway 1 toward Ocean Cove; no injuries or damaged structures were reported. Crews fought the blaze from both ground and air, including Fire Hawk helicopters, with containment at about 20% and around 320 personnel on scene. Evacuation zones SON-1D1 (about 350 households) and SON-1D2 (about 265 inland) were issued as smoke and heat prompted air-quality advisories for much of the region. The cause is under investigation.
