"Jan. 6 Rioters Convicted for Assaulting Capitol Police and Leading Capitol Breach"

Ryan Samsel, a participant in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, was convicted of assaulting Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards and other felony charges. Video evidence showed Samsel leading the violent breach of the police line, causing Edwards to be knocked unconscious. The judge convicted Samsel and four co-defendants of multiple felonies but found them not guilty on misdemeanor offenses related to their awareness of then-Vice President Mike Pence's presence in the Capitol. More than 1,250 people have been charged in connection with the Jan. 6 attack, with the Justice Department securing about 900 convictions.
