Aurora Ex-Proud Boy Sentenced to Over 3 Years for Jan. 6 Capitol Riot

James Robert Elliott, a former member of the Proud Boys group, has been sentenced to over three years in federal prison for assaulting officers during the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Elliott, who bragged about being promoted to the Proud Boys' highest rank of membership after the breach, pleaded guilty to assaulting, resisting or impeding officers. He must also pay $2,000 in restitution. Elliott's defense attorney claimed that prosecutors used his Proud Boy affiliation against him, but Elliott wrote a letter to the judge saying he has left the group and is moving his life in a positive direction.
