Leslie Van Houten, a former follower of Charles Manson, has been released from prison after serving 53 years for her participation in the 1969 murders of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. Van Houten, who was 19 at the time, stabbed Rosemary LaBianca multiple times. Her release comes after California Governor Gavin Newsom decided not to block her parole. Van Houten will be under parole supervision for a maximum of three years, with a parole discharge review after one year. Manson, who commanded his followers to commit the murders, died in prison in 2017.
