Columbia Shooting Suspect with Past Encounters Found Dead in Standoff.

Jermaine M. Burnett, the suspect in the fatal shooting and robbery of 72-year-old Janet L. Jago in Columbia, had multiple previous encounters with law enforcement, according to court records. Burnett died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound during a nearly 10-hour standoff with police. He had been charged with domestic assault, property damage, tampering with a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest in previous incidents. Burnett had also pleaded guilty to felonious restraint and receiving stolen property in the past and served time in the Missouri Department of Corrections.
