'El Chapo' Ally Extradited to US to Face Drug Charges

Jorge Ivan Gastelum Avila, a high-ranking member of the Sinaloa Cartel, has been extradited from Mexico to the United States to face international drug trafficking and firearms charges. Gastelum Avila is accused of being a lead assassin for the cartel and supervising drug-trafficking activities in the Mexican city of Guamúchil, Sinaloa. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison for the drug conspiracy charge and a mandatory consecutive sentence of 30 years for the firearms offense. Joaquin Guzman Loera, the former head of the Sinaloa Cartel, was extradited to the United States in 2017 and sentenced to life in prison in 2019.
