Ex-Kansas City Cop Defiantly Rejects Accountability for Fatal Shooting of Black Man

A former Kansas City police officer, Eric DeValkenaere, who was convicted in 2021 for fatally shooting a Black man, initially appeared to accept the consequences of his actions after surrendering himself to police following the loss of his appeal. However, his lawyer has now requested the reinstatement of his bond so he can remain free and appeal his conviction to the Missouri Supreme Court. The attorney general's office supports DeValkenaere's bond request, and there are rumors of potential pardoning or clemency from the governor.
