"Ex-Trump State Dept. Official Convicted for Capitol Riot Assault on Police"

Federico Guillermo Klein, a former State Department official in the Trump administration, has been convicted of assaulting police officers during the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. Klein and a co-defendant, Steven Cappuccio, were found guilty of assault charges and other felony offenses related to the violent clash between rioters and police in a tunnel leading to a Capitol entrance. Klein, who had a Top Secret security clearance, pushed against officers, wedged a stolen police riot shield between doors, and exhorted other rioters to attack police. Cappuccio ripped a gas mask off an officer's face and struck him with a riot baton. Over 1,000 people have been charged with federal crimes related to the Capitol attack, with more than 600 pleading guilty.
