Facebook Employee Admits to $4M Embezzlement Scheme

Barbara Furlow-Smiles, a former employee at Facebook, has pleaded guilty to embezzling over $4 million from the company to fund her luxurious lifestyle. Furlow-Smiles, who led Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs at Facebook, orchestrated an elaborate scheme involving fraudulent vendors, fictitious charges, and cash kickbacks. She used her position to approve invoices and submit purchase requisitions for Facebook-approved vendors, then manipulated the invoices and directed the vendors to send the money back to her. Sentencing is scheduled for March 19.
