Florida Dentist Receives Life Sentence for Murder-for-Hire Plot

A South Florida dentist, Charlie Adelson, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his former brother-in-law, Florida State University professor Dan Markel. Adelson was found guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation in the 2014 killing, which occurred during a bitter custody battle. Prosecutors presented wire taps and recorded conversations as evidence, implicating Adelson. Adelson's sister, Wendi Adelson, who has denied involvement, shared custody of the children with Markel and wanted to move closer to her family in South Florida, but Markel refused. Adelson's girlfriend, Katherine Magbanua, and the father of her children, Sigfredo Garcia, were also convicted for their roles in the murder. In a surprising twist, Adelson's mother, Donna Adelson, was arrested for orchestrating the hit-man murder of her ex-son-in-law, and she remains in jail facing the same charges as her son.
