Florida Dentist Receives Life Sentence for Murdering Prominent Professor

A South Florida dentist, Charlie Adelson, has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his former brother-in-law, Dan Markel, a prominent professor at Florida State University. Adelson was found guilty of first-degree murder, conspiracy, and solicitation in the 2014 killing, which occurred during a bitter custody battle. Prosecutors argued that Adelson paid to have Markel killed, and he was convicted based on wire taps and secretly recorded conversations. Adelson's sister, Wendi Adelson, who has denied involvement, shared custody of the couple's children and wanted to move to South Florida, but Markel refused. Adelson's girlfriend and the father of her children are also serving life sentences for their roles in the murder. In a surprising twist, Adelson's mother was arrested for orchestrating the hit-man murder and faces the same charges as her son.
