Gabbard Brother Charged in Waikīkī Child-Luring Incident

Batarti Gabbard, 55, the older brother of Tulsi Gabbard, was charged with second-degree custodial interference after allegedly trying to lure several children to his Waikīkī hotel room by offering money and gum; the incident occurred July 12 at a hotel pool, and the children reportedly refused. He is said to be receiving psychiatric treatment; he had also been arrested for theft earlier in July and is no longer in custody, with no court date yet set for the custodial-interference charge.
