I-5 arrest ties Portland man to NW Portland homicide

Authorities arrested 51-year-old Louis J. Chlumak of Portland on I-5 near milepost 236 and booked him on suspicion of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon in the deadly beating of 63-year-old Vernetta G. Fish inside a Northwest Portland apartment earlier this week. Fish died from blunt-force trauma and was found around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in an apartment on the 600 block of Northwest 18th Avenue; Chlumak was taken into custody Thursday afternoon and jailed at Multnomah County Detention Center.
