Indictment of Torrance police officers in Mitchell killing.

Two Torrance police officers, who were linked to a racist text messaging scandal, have been indicted in the 2018 shooting death of Christopher DeAndre Mitchell, a 23-year-old Black man who was holding an air rifle. The officers, Matthew Concannon and Anthony Chavez, were cleared of wrongdoing in 2018 by former District Attorney Jackie Lacey, but the case was reopened by her successor, George Gascón. A special prosecutor presented evidence to a grand jury last month, leading to the indictment. Mitchell's death was discussed in the racist text messages exchanged by the officers.
