Iowa Officer Clings to Fleeing Car in Dramatic Chase

A video of a driver fleeing Iowa police with an officer on his hood and roof emerged during the motorist's sentencing. Dennis James Guider Jr. was sentenced to up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a felony count of serious injury by vehicle. The incident occurred in March 2021 when Guider was facing arrest for an outstanding warrant in an Illinois forgery case. The officer, Patrick McCarty, was thrown from the vehicle and broke his back. Guider's attorney argued that as a Black man, Guider was fearful of a white officer and that both parties made horrible decisions.
