Massive Drug Bust: 29 Charged as US Coast Guard Seizes Tonnes of Drugs in San Diego

Twenty-nine people have been charged with drug trafficking offenses in San Diego, with nine of them facing sanctions from the U.S. Treasury Department for their alleged ties to a major Mexican drug trafficking organization. The indictments were announced alongside five other indictments across the country, totaling 60 defendants charged with trafficking heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana. The Treasury Department's sanctions target members and associates of the Beltran Leyva Organization, one of the largest suppliers of cocaine and fentanyl into the United States. The defendants allegedly trafficked drugs from various countries into Mexico for transportation into the U.S., with one shipment earning the nickname "Methzilla" due to the record-breaking amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl seized.
