Mother Charged After Allegedly Placing 1-Month-Old in Oven, Resulting in Infant's Death

A 1-month-old infant in Kansas City allegedly died after being put into an oven instead of a crib by the child's mother, Mariah Thomas, who has been charged with the Class A felony of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree, Death of a Child. The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office acknowledged the gruesome nature of the incident and expressed trust in the criminal justice system to respond appropriately.
