Multiple Cases Involving Former Officers Charged in Tyre Nichols' Death Dropped by District Attorney

The district attorney in Shelby County, Tennessee, has dropped more than 30 cases involving five former police officers who were charged with second-degree murder in the death of Tyre Nichols. The dismissals were made due to concerns about the credibility of the discharged officers as witnesses. Charges were also reduced in about a dozen other cases. Nichols died after being pulled over and beaten by the former Memphis Police officers, and the severity of the beating was revealed in body camera and surveillance footage. The former officers are expected to file pretrial motions, and a trial date has not been set. Nichols' family has also filed a lawsuit against the city, police department, and the fired officers.
