Police shooting survivor sues South Carolina sheriff's office.

A South Carolina man and his mother are suing the York County Sheriff's Office for unspecified damages after deputies fired 50 shots at the man, hitting him nine times, during a wellness check in May 2019. The man's lawyers claim he was complying with deputies' orders and did not pose a threat, and that the charges against him were lodged to provide cover for the excessive use of deadly force. The man was suffering from severe emotional distress and contemplating suicide at the time of the incident.
